Campus Car Thefts and Break-ins Prominent in Early Weeks of January

The beginning of January and the 2022 spring semester brought a string of incidents to the University of Memphis campus, car thefts and break-ins in particular. According to the crime log from the UofM Police Services, there have been four motor vehicle thefts, a theft from a motor vehicle and three car vandalisms. I spoke with U of M student Bailee Dykstra, who had her car stolen two times in December and January.
Halloween Won’t Be a Drag This year Thanks to this U of M Student Organization

U of M’s Stonewall Tigers Gender & Sexuality Alliance hosted a Halloween drag show on campus. I spoke to the drag queens and kings who performed . I also spoke with Stonewall Tigers student leaders and attendees for the event.
The Department of Earth Sciences Host Earth Day Event for University Middle School

In observance of Earth Day, the Department of Earth Sciences set up an Earth Day event at Johnson Hall for University Middle School students. Students were split into several groups and the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities set up for them in multiple rooms. I spoke with several instructors from the Earth Sciences department about arranging the event.
Porter-Leath and UofM Early Childhood Academy at Orange Mound Opening Today

Porter-Leath and the University of Memphis are set to celebrated the grand opening for the Early Childhood Academy at Orange Mound Friday afternoon with speeches from senior-level management at Porter-Leath, as well as speeches from UofM President M. David Rudd and UofM Associate Vice President Sally Gates Parish. I spoke with leaders at Porter Leathe and contributors to the school about Porter Leathe’s special features and designs.
