April 8 marked an extraordinary day nationwide with the occurrence of a solar eclipse. U of M’s Department of Physics and Materials Science hosted a watch party for this incredible moment. I had the chance to attend this event. In this special story, I provide an overview of the event and speak with department faculty members who helped arrange it. The Black Student Association Honors Art Gilliam
U of M’s Black Student Association honored Art Gilliam with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Gilliam has had a great impact on the city of Memphis, starting Memphis’ first black-owned radio station WLOK, as well as being president of Gilliam Communications.
